Boulder County is full of wonderful shows and festivals to attend this summer. You’ll find several of the season’s most exciting live performances and social gatherings within close proximity to Habitat Apartments. Here are five local events that are not to be missed:
Colorado Shakespeare Festival
From June 5th to August 9th, theatergoers can enjoy The Colorado Shakespeare Festival. The event will feature a series of four different Shakespeare plays: Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, Henry V, and Henry VI, Part 1. Season passes and single tickets are still available for the remaining shows, which will be performed at CU Boulder’s outdoor Mary Rippon Theatre or the indoor University Theatre, both located a short drive from our rental complex. The Mary Rippon stage is a particularly sought after venue, since audience members are able to enjoy performances underneath the night sky.
Bands on the Bricks
The summer concert series Bands on the Bricks also features nighttime performances. Located on Pearl Street Mall, a few miles south of our apartment community, the event runs from June to August, featuring weekly live music and a beer garden. The outdoor bar opens at 5:30pm every Wednesday night while local bands take the stage at 7pm. This year’s participating breweries include Avery and West Flanders.
Boulder Outdoor Cinema
Downtown Boulder is a lively place in the summer, with many shows and festivities held in the area. Boulder Outdoor Cinema is one of the area’s most popular summer pop-up venues; the makeshift movie theater is organized in a parking lot on 13th, between Canyon and Arapahoe, just a few miles away from our rental complex. Screenings are held weekly, with pre-show entertainment starting at 7pm, and movies airing at dusk. Seating is first-come-first-serve, and guests need to bring their own chairs or blankets. The cinema offers plenty of food for moviegoers, including classic snacks like popcorn, as well as more hearty eats from local food trucks. Tickets are donation-based and available at the gate, prior to the start of the movie. This year’s eclectic film lineup includes The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Lego Movie, Birdman, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Boulder County Farmers’ Markets
While summertime is known as a major movie-going period across the nation, it is also officially Farmers’ Market season here in our county. The Boulder and Longmont markets feature numerous local vendors, including produce and livestock farmers, bakers, food retailers, and artists. Throughout the season you can purchase locally grown products, including a variety of seasonal fruits, flowers, herbs, greens, vegetables, and assorted packaged goods.
Located in Downtown, a few miles from our apartment community, the Boulder market is open Wednesday evenings, from 4 to 8pm, and Saturdays from 8am to 2pm. Neighboring Longmont also hosts bi-weekly markets on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, and Wednesdays from 4 to 8pm on 5th Avenue, between Main and Kimbark.
Whether you’re passionate about fresh, local eats or excited about seeing live performances, Boulder County offers a variety of events for you to enjoy this season. Take advantage of the warm weather by attending the many wonderful local festivities this summer.
