Boulder is a great place to enjoy Memorial Day weekend. In fact, there are two events you don’t want to miss this holiday: the Boulder Creek Festival and the BolderBOULDER 10K. These long-time community events offer the opportunity to kick off summer with a bang.
The Boulder Creek Festival runs Saturday, May 27 through Monday, May 29 and is heralded as Boulder County’s favorite event for over a quarter century. This year marks the festival’s 30th anniversary. The event is free to the public and offers a multitude of options for all ages. Festival-goers can enjoy any number of the more than 500 vendors showcasing goods such as community arts and crafts to the latest in new technology gadgets and lifestyle products perfect for Coloradans. Stop by the carnival rides for some good ole’ fashion fun, check out the carousel and bumper cars, or try your hand at winning a stuffed monkey at the dart throw game station. After working up an appetite, feast on food and beverages to satisfy your hunger and thirst with traditional carnival favorites, including popcorn, corn dogs, and beer.
The most popular aspect of the festival are the live performances, held on three stages (Bandshell Stage, Festival Stage, and Community Stage) throughout the weekend. . On Saturday, performances begin at 11:30 a.m. and run through 10:00 p.m. with Pete Kartsounes Band and Dead Phish Orchestra to close out the evening. Check out the complete schedule of performers online.
After a fun filled weekend, you won’t want to miss the BolderBOULDER 10K on Memorial Day. The race was locally founded in 1979 and has grown exponentially since then, attracting over 50,000 racers and over 100,000 spectators. BolderBOULDER is now considered one of the largest and most respected community running events in the world.
The most memorable part of the BolderBOULDER is arguably the grand finale held at Folsom Field. Every year at noon, the event concludes with a ceremony honoring our men and women in uniform. This unforgettable tribute includes a presentation of the Nation’s Colors, a 21-gun salute by the University of Colorado NROTC members, an F-16 fly-over by the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center from NAS Fallon, NV, skydivers carrying flags from each branch of the military, and the singing of our national anthem.
