Boulder, Colorado is famous for its thriving art scene. Our city is home to the third largest concentration of artists in the United States, and Boulder residents are fortunate to have excellent access to local art year round. If you’d like to browse our artists’ latest works, stop by for a Boulder Arts Week event (or several). The festival is gearing up for its sixth annual appearance, so if you’d like to join the fun, here’s what you need to know.
When and Where
Boulder Arts Week runs from March 29-April 6, 2019. Events are available throughout our city at a variety of venues, but we’ve highlighted a few of the options below. If you’d like to browse the full lineup of events and exhibitions, please visit this site.
Open Wall at Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art
Artists and art enthusiasts will enjoy the chance to participate in Open Wall at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. This featured event is free of charge, and kicks off on Friday, March 29 at 5:30 pm. Doors open for artists at 4:30 pm, and the public reception and silent auction run from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. Attendees of Open Wall will have the opportunity to support both BMoCA and local artists as they sample drinks and hors d’œuvres, and it’s sure to be an unforgettable evening. Proceeds from the auction will be evenly split between the museum and the artists.
Boulder International Film Festival Shorts
Film aficionados won’t want to miss out on Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF) shorts presented at the Boulder Public Library. This hour-long viewing takes place on March 29 from 12:00-1:00 pm, and will feature a variety of BIFF short films. Many of these stories will become award winners, and will likely be the stepping stone for bigger projects for their makers.
BLDG 61 Open Studio
Boulder Arts Week is all about making art accessible for the community. You don’t have to be a professional artist to enjoy artistic pursuits, and attending Open Studio at BLDG 61 is the perfect opportunity to get creative. At this remarkable event, you’ll have the chance to mingle with fellow artists as you create on your own terms. Several materials will be on hand for use, including sewing machines, spinning wheels, digital design software, and more. This event runs throughout the week, so check here to find the best fit for your schedule.
