Apartment fires represent a real, and luckily preventable, danger for any renter. In 2015, municipal fire departments recorded 95,000 apartment fires in the United States, which does not include fires reported to federal or state agencies. The true number of apartment fires that occurred throughout the year is likely to be much higher.
Tips for Controlling Fall Allergens in Your Apartment
Spring is well-known for being peak allergy season. New plants bloom, pollen is plentiful, and runny noses are everywhere you turn. However, autumn runs a close second, with its heavy potential for allergens. During this colorful season, the ragweed plant releases enormous amounts of lightweight pollen that can travel hundreds of miles in the wind. The pollen is so irritating that 75 percent of people who are allergic to spring plants also have allergic reactions to ragweed. [Read more…]
Up and Coming Kickstarter Home Products to Watch
Here at Habitat Apartments, we’re always looking for new products to improve our living experiences. Anything we can find to make life a little better is a good thing in our book. Because it’s not easy finding innovative products at the store, we often turn to the internet to help us out. One of our favorite websites to browse for new and unique products for our homes is Kickstarter. So, we decided to give our fellow apartment renters a synopsis of the up-and-coming Kickstarter products that we found on our search.
LYFE
The first product on our list comes from entrepreneur, Simon Morris. LYFE is a floating planter that utilizes magnetic technology to levitate over a tastefully designed oak base. The planter itself rotates 360 degrees to give the plant of your choosing maximum sunlight. While viable for any plant type, air plants are especially well suited to its design, as they absorb their nutrients not through a root system, but through the air surrounding their leaves.
We recommend this product because of its modern design that would fit nicely in any space, from a cozy studio apartment to a sleek home office. It’s definitely unique enough that you won’t find it anywhere else.
Woodie
The Woodie is a product out of Milan, Italy attempting to reinvent the way we perceive power strips. In a world where technology is ever evolving to become smaller and more stylish, we believe this device is a replacement for unsightly power strips that haven’t changed in decades.
Available in marble, wood, or concrete, the Woodie features 2 universal AC sockets, 2 USB, 3 plugs, and a rear suction pad to affix the device to any surface in your apartment. This method of mounting is a great solution for anyone living in a rental home, as it will not cause any damage when you move or remove the device. It also has wireless charging technology for phones with the capability and companion wooden cases for iPhones 6/6s that enable them to charge wirelessly, as well.
Knocki
This product aims to turn your entire home into a smart home, or more specifically, turn any flat area of your home into a smart surface. It works by attaching to any commonly used surfaces, such as a living room end table or office desk, and enables them to interface with smart home products through a series of taps or knocks. Tasks like turning off the lights or brewing a pot of coffee can be accomplished by knocking twice, or by tapping thrice, or any other patterns you deem convenient.
As a bonus, Knocki can work directly with your smartphone, enabling people without smart home products to do things like receive email alerts or change their ambient music.
Wynd
The last product on our list is an air purifier designed to filter only the air you need. Wynd works by intaking the air around you, filtering it, and allowing you to direct the clean air in any direction you desire. The device comes equipped with an air quality sensor, which displays air quality information on your smartphone and adjusts Wynd to automatically filter the air as much or as little as needed.
Here in Boulder, we recognize the need to keep our bodies as healthy as possible, and Wynd helps with that. It filters particles, including allergens, germs, industrial pollution and some viruses, and kills them on contact with its antimicrobial silver-lined filter.
We hope that this list has given you insight into some exciting products we believe can help make your apartment a more enjoyable place to live. If you’re ever looking for a great place to rent in Boulder, Colorado, give us a call. We’ll be glad to show you why Habitat Apartments is right for you.
