Springtime in Boulder brings many exciting concerts to the area. Throughout Boulder and Denver there are many great venues that’ll be bustling with live music soon. Not far from Habitat Apartments, here are a few local venues boasting a diverse music lineup:
Boulder Theater
Boulder Theater is a popular local music venue just a short drive from our apartment community. Located in Downtown Boulder, the theater hosts performances and events year round. Its spring lineup of concerts offers a musically diverse group of bands and solo acts.
Fans of Elliott Smith can catch Jessica Lea Mayfield and Seth Avett (of the Avett Brothers) on March 24th at this local hotspot. The duo will be playing Elliot Smith covers as well as new original music. The epic folk rock singer and songwriter Ani DiFranco, who has released over 20 albums on her own label, will be performing on March 29th and 30th. April 13th brings the Grammy-award winning reggae veterans Steel Pulse to Boulder. The singer, violinist, and banjo player Rhiannon Giddens will perform her eclectic country-blues music on May 1st.
Fox Theatre
Another great music venue near our rental complex is Fox Theatre. Located on The Hill, near CU Boulder, this venue is a favorite stop for touring rock bands and DJs. In the spring, you can catch many lively shows at the Fox. Upcoming acts include the Americana band Hurray for the Riff Raff (March 28th), the modern psychedelic band The Werks (April 4th), and the LA-based DJ The Gaslamp Killer (June 5th).
Macky Auditorium
If you prefer symphony music over contemporary bands, Macky Auditorium is the place for you. Less than a 20-minute drive from our North Boulder apartments, the CU Boulder concert hall is home to the University’s Symphony Orchestra and the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. This spring, Mackey will host two standout events, as its classical music season comes to a close.
Seasoned pop singer Natalie Merchant will perform at Macky on April 2nd, accompanied with the University Symphony Orchestra. The show will feature Merchant’s original music rearranged for the Orchestra. On April 25th, the Boulder Phil will conclude its season with their finale show Legendary Virtuosity, featuring the premiere cellist Zuill Bailey and the music of composers Anatoly Lyadov and Dvorak.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Celebrate spring with music in the great outdoors at Red Rocks. The amphitheatre is set in the stunning Red Rocks Park, which is part of the Denver Parks & Recreation Division. Located about an hour south of our apartments, a concert at Red Rocks is a classic Colorado experience that’s worth the drive.
The open-air venue always boasts a popular lineup and its upcoming spring schedule is sure to please many music lovers. April concerts include the reggae group Soja with rapper Nas (4/18), as well as the electronic rock band Savoy (4/25). May shows feature rocker Courtney Love opening for Lana Del Rey (5/12), and co-headlining bands The Decemberists and Spoon (5/27). Just before summer starts, you can catch singer-songwriter Ryan Adams (6/4) and the band Belle and Sebastian playing with the Colorado Symphony (6/17).
With outdoor shows, symphony concerts, and bands performing at local clubs, spring is a wonderful season for music lovers in Boulder. Tickets for all these events are on sale now so check out each venue’s website for prices and more info.
