Gunbarrel Welcomes Avery Brewing

Avery Brewing Company is coming to Gunbarrel, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome them to the neighborhood! Construction is officially underway, and they are right on track to open for business in January 2015. Welcoming our newest neighbor is exciting for a number of reasons, and we want to give you all the details you’ve been looking for.

The long-awaited and much-anticipated arrival of Avery Brewing Company first began to cause a stir in December 2012, when the father and son ownership team first closed on the property just northwest of Twin Lakes and not far from our very own apartment community. The land, which is located at 4910 Nautilus Court, will serve as the foundation for a 95,922 square-foot powerhouse comprised of a brewery, a 249-seat restaurant, a tap room, and a gift shop.

The massive facility is exactly what was needed to meet the world-class brewery’s incredible demand. Since its inception in 1993, Avery Brewing Company has grown exponentially, now producing and distributing over 50,000 barrels of beer annually. Even this tremendous quantity has not been enough to keep their product on the shelves. Avery’s brews have garnered such a following that the only logical next step was expansion. We’re so happy that they chose Gunbarrel as the place to do it! The new facility will have the capability of producing in excess of 500,000 barrels annually, which is a very realistic possibility for Avery, given the popularity of their beer.

The project itself is already generating economic growth for our community. The 27-million-dollar funding was obtained by Larry and Adam Avery without accepting outside investment capital. The owners stated that they are a closely-held operation that is not strictly profit-driven, which is a major reason why people love working for them. In order to maintain that tight-knit culture in their brewery, Larry and Adam chose to fund the project with a combination of Avery Brewing’s cash and loans from Colorado Business Bank and Citywide Bank.

That culture will continue to be enjoyed by current employees, as well as a large number of future new hires. The brewery’s workforce is expected to initially grow by approximately 25% in order to accommodate increased production, which means a significant number of new job openings right here in Gunbarrel. Avery Brewing will be walking/biking distance from your apartment, they are on the cutting edge of beer production, and they have an outstanding reputation as being a company everyone loves to work for. What more could you ask for in a future employer? Keep an eye on their job listings in the coming months! We expect there to be quite a few new positions available as the date of their grand opening gets closer.

In the meantime, the team at Avery Brewing just couldn’t wait. As we said before, the demand for their products has been far exceeding the supply. While the majority of Avery’s beers are distributed right here at home, they are also available in 28 other states. As a means of supplying all of their vendors across the United States while still waiting for the completion of their new facility, Avery has entered into a friendly alternating proprietorship with Fort Collins-based New Belgium Brewery. This very congenial arrangement allows Avery to produce its popular White Rascal Belgian-Style White Ale in a space leased from New Belgium. While the agreement is limited to the production of only one style of beer for one year, it still allows Avery Brewing Company to sustain its impressive history of growth and keep financing on track for their new Gunbarrel facility.
