The festivities and local spirit come alive on July 4th, with innumerable events to celebrate Independence Day in a way only Boulder knows how. Let’s start with tradition and go from there.
Since 1941, Ralphie’s Independence Day Blast has been an annual tradition at the University of Colorado’s football stadium, Folsom Field. From viewing fireworks, engaging in rapturous sing-alongs, enjoying live music, and of course, seeing Ralphie – Colorado University’s live buffalo mascot, it’s a tradition that’s not going anywhere soon.
Admission is completely free, gates open at 8:00 p.m., and by 8:30 p.m. the festivities are in full swing. The fireworks will start as soon as it’s dark, which should be about 9:40 p.m.
Previously known as the Star-Spangled Splash at Boulder Reservoir, this year the event is dedicated to Craig Towler. Without dreading past tragedies, Craig asks anyone and everyone to “Please join me on July 4th, 2017 to celebrate life!”
This early morning run is the perfect way to prepare for a day of burgers, bratwurst, beer, and libations. As per tradition, a beer garden will also be open for those 21 and older. What else do you need to start off the 4th of July properly?
What you need to know:
- To register for the 10k run, there is a $50 entry fee; to register for the 5k run, there is a $45 entry fee.
- Location: Boulder Reservoir.
- Pick up your race bibs near the start line from 6:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. (note that the race starts at 8:00 a.m. so you may want to pick up your bib before 8:00 a.m. rolls around).
Perhaps you’re looking for a more old-fashioned celebration of America’s independence. In that case, look no further than this self-described “old-fashioned July 4th celebration”, complete with live music, beer and wine gardens, food vendors and kid friendly activities such as a bungee trampoline, bounce house and pony rides. And what would the 4th be if not for fireworks? Don’t worry – fireworks will take center stage at dusk.
Starting at 4:00 p.m. and ending at 10:00 p.m., you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the multitude of vendors, activities, and events scheduled.
Located at Waneka Lake Park, 1600 Caria Dr., Lafayette, this is a perfect alternative to Folsom Field if you’re looking for a more relaxed but nonetheless fantastic afternoon and evening celebration this 4th of July.
