If you’re making an effort to improve your diet or you’re interested in shopping locally, stop by the Boulder County Farmers’ Market on Saturday, November 18th. This is the last opportunity to shop at the market for the year, so don’t miss out! If you’ve never been to this farmers’ market before, here’s what you can expect:
When and Where:
The Saturday Boulder Farmers’ Market is available each Saturday until November 18th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Located on 13th Street in Boulder between Canyon and Arapahoe, the sale should be easy to find. If you’ll be driving to the event, parking is available in one of the garages in downtown Boulder, at Boulder High School, or on the street near the tents. For the best chances of grabbing a prime parking spot, arrive early. For Longmont residents, the market lasts from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and is located at the Boulder County Fairgrounds.
Additional Details
While you shop for locally made products, enjoy live music and mingle with the community. This is a popular gathering, so feel free to spend a few hours perusing the selection and enjoy the atmosphere. However, it’s important to keep in mind that no pets are allowed due to safety and sanitary concerns.
What’s In Season?
If you’re interested in stocking up on healthy food that’s grown right here in Colorado, you’re probably wondering what’s in season at this time of year. Right now, there’s plenty of variety to choose from. Just a few of the in-season offerings include apples, bok choy, broccoli, eggplant, fennel, and Swiss chard. In addition to produce, be sure to look for locally raised poultry and eggs.
Additional Reasons to Shop Locally
Stocking up on fresh vegetables and organic meat can quickly become expensive at the grocery store. If you’d like to change your diet but are reluctant to spend the money, check out the prices at the farmers’ market. In most cases, they are unbeatable compared to what you’ll find at a conventional grocery or health food store. Since the options at the Boulder County markets are locally grown, the produce won’t have transport costs built into the price tag. In addition to getting more food for less money, buying food from a local market supports small farmers. Shopping locally is a win for all involved—you’ll slash your grocery bill, help the environment, and encourage Boulder area farmers to stay in business.
