Ghost Towns of the Rockies

Learn about the Ghost Towns of the Rockies

Everyone has heard stories of ghost towns; towns long deserted because of unforeseen circumstances and strange occurrences, but not everyone has seen one. Well, Preethi Burkholder has and she is dying to tell you about it.

On November 17, Burkholder will be on hand to talk about the ghost towns that speckle the Wild West at the Carolyn Holmberg Preserve, south on CO-119 to the Denver Boulder Turnpike to Broomfield.

The program is  titled Ghost Towns of the Rockies after her book and will delve into the historical background and significance of these towns, pictures and first-hand experience from the author who has been there and researched it all. A book-signing will take place following the event.

This is the perfect event for kids, adults and seniors. In Boulder outdoor activities reign supreme, but when the winter months roll in great events like this take place; so enjoy them while they last and gather some really cool information.

If you’ve read Preethi’s book or simply want to know more about ghost towns, head down to the preserve for this free event and be sure to let us know about it on our Facebook page.

What’s better than exercising in the fresh air and grabbing a beer afterwards? Well, I can’t think of anything!

Every Tuesday at 6:15 p.m., Running for Brews meets at the Walnut Brewery, about eight miles from The Habitat south on the Diagonal Highway to US-36 and Canyon Boulevard.

Join Running For Brews Boulder for their Halloween Costume Contest Run

The evening starts with a short 5K run/walk and then gathers together at the Walnut Brewery to enjoy some of the finest craft beers available in Colorado.

Essentially, you run the carbs off…then have fun putting them back on!

This brand new running club is still growing, and the more people that join, the more fun will be had by all. It’s sure to be fun on Oct. 30 when they hold a Halloween Costume Contest Run.

This is the first themed run and they’re still working on prizes, but categories for costumes include:

Best Dressed Overall
Best Dressed Male
Best Dressed Female
Sexiest
Scariest

The fun starts at 6 p.m. and for more information, questions, comments or ideas, send them an email.  Of course, if you know of other running groups or amazing races coming up that are located in the Boulder outdoors, feel free to share that information on our Facebook page.

Explore the many sites to see in Boulder before winter!

Boulder is one of the most beautiful and scenic places in Colorado and the local area near your home at The Habitat has some incredible things to see and do. This fall, don’t stay cooped up in your apartment when you can get out and see all that there is to see here.

Boulder recently earned the title of the most scenic places for exercise enthusiasts in America. One of the best and most popular trails is the scenic Boulder Creek Path which runs along the river that snakes through town. This trail is ideal for runners, walkers, and gawkers alike and there are plenty of great parks along the way where you can set up a picnic and enjoy the view of the Flatirons overhead.

Also, now that fall is here it means the harvest is coming to the Boulder County Farmers’ Market. This local tradition showcases the Colorado agricultural industry and you will not find better produce or locally crafted delicacies anywhere in the state, so it is definitely worth a visit…or two.

When you are done taking your latest tour of the area near our apartment in Boulder, feel free to share your tips and suggestions with other residents on our our Facebook page.
