Boulder has some of the most exciting and beautiful photo opportunities in the nation. In fact, most of the locations in our colorful and eclectic city paint the perfect backdrop for just about any photo, so it can be hard to choose! With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of great places to start. Whether you are a seasoned photographer visiting from out of town or a local weekend photo warrior who just wants to get out of their apartment and take some great photos, Boulder, Colorado promises to send you home with a camera full of breathtaking shots. Here are some ideas for capturing some of the best pictures Boulder has to offer:
Chautauqua Park
Chautauqua Park offers endless possibilities for photographers, not the least of which is the stunning iconic backdrop of the Flatirons. Other potential photo elements found in this park include a colorful array of wildflowers and historic buildings. As with all of Boulder’s parks, Chautauqua closes at 11:00 pm and reopens at 5:00 am. However, this shouldn’t be of any concern to most photographers.
Boulder Creek
The photo opportunities along Boulder Creek are boundless! The heavily shaded Boulder Creek Path makes a great canvas for photographers who are looking for some interesting lighting effects, and the creek itself makes a gorgeous background for your next shot. Try to keep in mind that this is a favorite destination among Colorado’s road trip fanatics, especially during the warmer months. The most opportune times for photographers at Boulder Creek are likely to be sunrise and sunset.
Pearl Street Mall
If you are more interested in street photography, this is the place to do it! At any given time, you will find that Pearl Street Mall is bustling with fun and excitement. Your photos are guaranteed to be full of life, and the colorful end result will make the perfect DIY décor for your bare apartment walls. Keep an eye out for festivals and other listings for events happening in the area, because these are times when activity is at its peak. Other attractions in the area include seasonal art shows, live music, and street performers (a favorite for all ages!).
University of Colorado at Boulder
The CU Boulder campus showcases incredible architecture and plenty of green space. Just as with Chautauqua Park, the backdrop of the Flatirons makes this a desirable location for professional shutterbugs and amateur photographers alike. While you’re there, grab a campus map and make sure to hit all of the hot spots, including the CU museum and the student union. Keep in mind, however, that the can’t-miss feature of this spectacular campus is its stadium.
The locations that we have listed for you here barely begin to touch on the wealth of photo opportunities that can be found throughout Boulder County. Everywhere you look is something spectacular. So, be sure to keep your camera handy every time you plan to leave your apartment. Otherwise, you’re bound to miss something!
