Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art

Where: Macky Auditorium Concert Hall, University of Colorado Boulder
Ghost Lights is the latest BMoCA series held at Macky Auditorium. The show features painted wood panels by Colorado artist Mark Bueno. “Ghost lights” refers to similar balls of light that people have reported seeing throughout history, a phenomenon attributed to the supernatural on occasion. Mark’s work explores the traditions of storytelling and superstitions, while using spray paint and stencils to create unique, otherworldly pieces.
Dylan Gebbia Richards: Eclipse
When: January 26 – May 29, 2017
Dylan Gebbia-Richards’ sculptural installations have depth and texture that must be witnessed in person. Unique colors and shapes fill the gallery space for a three-dimensional experience.
Mathias Kessler: Artifacts & Other Errors of Perception
When: January 26 – May 29, 2017
Explore the art and history of Boulder with Austrian artist Mathias Kessler. Mathias uses re-imagined fossils and scenic impressions to map out Boulder’s natural and cultural ecosystem.
During January and February, the Dairy will showcase art in four different gallery spaces throughout the building. Visit its website to view gallery hours.
Art as Medicine: Artists in Recovery
When: January 13 – February 26, 2017
Where: McMahon Gallery
The Art as Medicine show celebrates the power of art to heal or to help those suffering from depression, cancer, PTSD, and drug abuse, to name a few. All art has been created by those recovering from such illnesses.
Contemplative Landscapes by Suzanne Frazier

Where: Polly Addison Gallery
Suzanne Frazier considers herself a “contemplative artist,” whose work is inspired by meditation and the mountains of Colorado.
Quiet Desperation by Craig Marshall Smith

Where: MacMillan Family
Local Denver artist Craig Marshall Smith is an abstract expressionist oil painter whose work is influenced by drawing, draftsmanship, and calligraphy.
CU Department of Art and Art History
When: February 7 at 6:30 pm
Where: Visual Arts Complex 1B20, CU Boulder
Jenny Sabin’s work combines architecture and science. She uses math and biology to create breathtaking sculptures and installations.

Ceramic artist Tip Toland creates characters that portray the vulnerability and isolation that often accompany the aging process. His characters endure struggles and age with dignity in this thoughtful exhibit.

Artist Umar Rashid uses ink and acrylic to re-imagine history by combining 18th- and 19th-century colonial portraiture. He uses humor and history to confront issues of race, power, and injustice.
