In Boulder, you’ll find an incredible variety of things to keep you entertained all year long. Whether you are new to the area or have simply committed to trying new things in 2016, you’ll be pleased to find that in Boulder, it’s virtually impossible to be bored. Below, we’ve listed a few of our favorites.
Take to the Skies
With such breathtaking surroundings and endless sunshine, it would be a shame to stay indoors. If you’re looking for new ways to take it all in, consider exploring our city with a bird’s eye view. Here are a few ideas:
Mile High Gliding
Take up the sport of gliding! Using natural air currents, you will have the opportunity to soar over Boulder’s rolling landscape in one of these small unpowered aircrafts. It’s a great activity to try at least once, and if you find that you are hooked after your first session, consider looking into competitive gliding. If you’re interested, you can even attend lessons at Mile High Gliding to earn your FAA Private Pilot Certificate with a glider rating.
Hot Air Balloon Flights
Adventure Balloon Sports is Boulder’s exclusive hot air balloon service. If you have never participated in a hot air balloon ride (particularly in Boulder), then you have definitely been missing out. The activity itself will leave you absolutely delighted, but these guys take the overall experience one step further. Every ride begins in the morning with a light breakfast, including French-pressed coffee, tea, fruit salad, granola, and yogurt. Flights last approximately 1 to 1 ½ hours, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the incredible views of the Rocky Mountains from high above. Finally, your pilot will bring your ride to a close with a champagne toast. What a fun way to spend your day!
Hone Your Skills at Home
One of the most charming aspects of Boulder’s local culture is our zest for living clean, active, healthy lifestyles. It’s why our food scene thrives the way it does. With a little creativity, you can achieve the same result in the comfort of your own apartment.
A great place to start is at the Boulder Farmer’s Market, with a wide selection of wholesome, locally-produced ingredients. The market is currently closed, but will reopen on April 2, 2016 and will run through November 19, 2016. You can stop by on Wednesdays from 4:00pm to 8:00pm or on Saturdays from 8:00am to 2:00pm.
If you prefer to grow your own veggies, check out Harlequin’s Gardens, which is walking or biking distance (approximately 4.0 miles) from our apartment community. There, you will find more than simple gardening supplies. They offer advice and classes for making the most of your vegetable garden; it’s a must if you’re a first-time gardener.
Once you have your fruits and veggies in order, be sure to check out the School of Natural Cookery, also just 4 miles from our apartment homes. They offer certifications and workshops to suit every skill level and budget. If you prefer to participate in culinary training at home, they also offer online courses.
Experiment with Indoor Fitness
We are fortunate to have so many indoor fitness options so close to home. Why not try a few? Gone are the days of being limited to yoga or pilates (although, we certainly do love both). Today, if you’re looking for ways to stay active and fit indoors, you have plenty of interesting classes to choose from. Here are two of them:
Frequent Flyers
At Frequent Flyers, you’ll find trapeze classes, aerial fitness circuit training, stilts training, dance classes, stretching, and more. They offer something for everyone, ages 6 and up, and according to their website, they will create custom training options upon request. Check out their online schedule and registration module for more information.
Front Range Boxing Academy
Front Range Boxing Academy promises alternative fitness techniques that will leave you exhausted and satisfied. Classes are available for ages 8 and up; they include everything from the most basic beginner sessions to hour-long grueling classes infamous for challenging even the most well-conditions athletes. Check out their class descriptions to find a session that will suit your interests and abilities.
Whatever your personal tastes, you’ll never run out of new things to try in Boulder. You can grab a friend or go alone; either way, you’re sure to have a great time.
