Every year, Boulder County residents are given countless options for musical entertainment. If you’re interested in live music, we have everything from symphony orchestras to hole-in-the-wall venues offering the best in homegrown indie performances from your favorite Colorado acts. Although many of our favorite venues have yet to post their events schedule for the remainder of the year, here are a few live music events in Boulder County that you can look forward to as we move into 2016:
Reel Big Fish at Fox Theatre
February 17, 2016
Reel Big Fish was a favorite among fans of similar mid-90’s sensations, like No Doubt and Sublime. Hailing from Huntington Beach, CA, they broke into the mainstream in 1997 when their single, “Sell Out” became a regular on radio and MTV countdowns. Now, they are coming to Boulder, and you don’t want to miss this energetic stage performance filled with adolescent humor and ironic covers of all the best top-40 songs. Visit the Fox Theatre website to purchase tickets.
Indigo Girls with the University Symphony Orchestra
March 31, 2015
The Indigo Girls have been known to pair with a symphony band or two. They’ve performed with the Columbus Symphony, The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, The Chatanooga Symphony Orchestra, and now they are coming to do the same thing with our very own University Symphony Orchestra. Every performance of this kind has been an absolute hit, so this is really something to look forward to. Book your tickets in advance at CU Presents, because this is sure to sell out.
CU Presents Spring Swing 2016
April 17, 2016
Beginning at 2pm in CU Boulder’s Macky Auditorium, the CU Concert Jazz Ensemble (along with a few guest artists) will take you back to the Big Band era. Enjoy the smooth sounds of their tribute to all of the best musicians and composers of the period, including Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and more. Visit CU Presents to learn more and book your tickets.
Boulder Craft Beer Festival
August 2016, dates TBA
As the name suggests, the Boulder Craft Beer Festival brings together the best breweries from Boulder County and beyond for a one-stop tasting event that you don’t want to miss. The event’s organizers are yet to announce the 2016 music lineup, but last year featured local music acts, The Railsplitters and Strange Americans. Keep an eye on the Downtown Boulder events calendar for updates.
As the year progresses, we’ll begin to hear more about the musical events that are happening in and around Boulder. In the meantime, it doesn’t hurt to check out what’s happening in other nearby locations. No mention of Colorado music would be complete without some reference to Red Rocks Ampitheatre. They have so many great shows coming up in the year ahead; check out their event listings, and you’re sure to find a show that interests you.
Also, keep an eye on the schedules for local music hotspots like eTown Hall, Laughing Goat Coffee House, Nissi’s, Oskar Blues, and Shine. Most of these venues host some form of musical entertainment every single night of the week, which means you’ll always have options when you’re in the mood for a melody.
